TeamMONASH runs for the kids

TeamMONASH were among the horde of runners participating in the annual fundraising event, Run for the Kids, last Sunday.

Over 150 Monash students, staff and alumni joined efforts to raise funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. Almost $2 million was raised thanks to the 35,000 runners and thousands of supportive spectators to aid in medical research, support and care for sick children.

TeamMONASH™ Programs Leader, Carolyn Gordon was proud of Monash students’ sportsmanship and dedication when running, cheering and supporting the fundraising cause.

“Run for Kids has always been an exciting event, and we’re proud of having the largest university team this year. We are hopeful our team will keep growing so more funds can be raised for this great cause,” Carolyn said.

With courses ranging from 5.5 to 15 kilometres, an array of participants joined the cause from former Olympians and active runners to costume-wearing children and families.

The Monash runners also received invaluable support from 30 Monash student volunteers who coordinated the team, ran the UniHub cloakroom, assisted with enquiries and formed a cheer squad to support students throughout the whole race.

“The conditions were perfect for running and the UniHub was thriving all day with music, free food and drinks and lots of happy smiling faces,” Carolyn said.

Team MONASH hopes that in future runs and charity events, the team will continue to show the same commitment and enthusiasm to support important causes such as the Good Friday Appeal.
