Monash have once again absolutely dominated in the Australian Cheer and Dance scene this year, finishing 2019 with an enormous medal haul from both University and All Star events.

The team won a total of six gold medals and a silver medal at the 2019 Unisport Div 1 Nationals on the Gold Coast (LINK http://teammonash.blogspot.com/2019/10/monash-cheer-and-dance-blitz-2019.html), taking out the overall prizes in both Cheer and Dance disciplines.

64 Monash athletes competed across eight cheer and dance divisions at the event in October, which is considered to be one of the qualifying events for the 2020 World University Cheerleading Championships in Korea.

Just when we thought they couldn’t get any better, the Monash athletes won another eight gold medals and two silver medals at the Australian All Star Cheerleading Federation (AASCF) Nationals early in December!

Monash Apollo cheer team and Minerva dance team earned the title of ‘Grand Champions’ for their respective divisions.

Monash Cheer and Dance Vice President, Hayley Shreeve, said a "family-like culture" was the key ingredient in the squads 'recipe for success'.
"Obviously to perform so well you need a bit of luck, but we had great athletes and awesome staff," Shreeve said.

"We just loved to support each other and build an atmosphere were everyone wanted to train and work hard.

"I'm incredibly proud of our season."

After the success of 2019, the Vice President said the club has high hopes for 2020 and expects to have another strong year.

"Unisport Cheer Nationals are in Melbourne next year, so we want to perform really well then," Shreeve said.

"We're also hoping to qualify for World University Championships next year in South Korea, which would be another amazing challenge for the team to take on."

There were also strong results throughout the year for individuals in the team who competed with other club’s at various competitions.
Monash Master of Teaching student Rebecca Fancke (LINK http://teammonash.blogspot.com/2019/07/world-championship-success-for-monashs.html) placed sixth with her local team from Northcote at the International All Star Federation (IASF) World Cheerleading Championships in Florida in April.
Bec’s team competed against 42 other teams from around the world, including the US, Canada, England, France and Norway.  She said she is very grateful for all the opportunities the sport affords female athletes.
“Being an all-girl team, I hope that our journey to Worlds inspires many young girls to work hard, dream big, and know that they are able to achieve amazing things in sport as well as in life,” she said.
“I can only put our success down to the sheer passion and dedication my teammates have for the sport and for our dream.”
